2010 Population Census Methodology

Population censuses produce information in order to know the territorial distribution and the main characteristics of persons and households, as well as to follow up its evolution over time. They are essential to define public policies and to take investment decisions, either in the private sector or at any government level. As they survey all the households in Brazil, population censuses are the only reference source to know the life conditions of the population in every municipality and in their internal territorial cuttings, whose socioeconomic realities depend on the censuses results to be known.

This release presents the methodology used in the 2010 Population Census. The publication includes a detailed description of every process involved in the survey, from the planning steps to the organization of the operation and to the several forms of dissemination of its final results.,A special chapter highlights the use of new Information and Communication Technologies, which allowed Brazil to carry out the first digital population census in the world.
