Continuous National Household Sample Survey - Quarterly Edition

This survey is aimed at producing continuous information about the population's participation in the labor market in association with demographic and educational characteristics, also focusing on the study of the socioeconomic development of the country. It aggregates the production of annual results on permanent survey topics (such as child labor and other forms of work, migration, fertility, etc) and other relevant aspects selected according to the demands for information.

The survey is conducted by means of a sample of housing units, taken from a master sample, so as to guarantee that results will properly represent the several geographic levels established for the dissemination of results. Every quarter a total 211,344 permanent private housing units are surveyed, in approximately 16,000 enumeration areas, distributed among about 3,500 municipalities.

Frequency: Monthly, for a limited group of indicators related to workforce and only for the geographic level of Brazil; quarterly, for indicators related to workforce; annual, for the remaining survey topics and complementary indicators related to workforce; and variable, for other permanent themes or topics within the permanent themes to be surveyed at a higher frequency or even occasionally.

Geographic coverage: Brazil, Major Regions, Federation Units Unidades da Federação, 20 Metropolitana Areas which have capital municipalities (Manaus, Belém, Macapá, São Luís, Fortaleza, Natal, João Pessoa, Recife, Maceió, Aracaju, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Vitória, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Vale do Rio Cuiabá, and Goiânia), Capital municipalities and Integrated Region for the Development of Greater Teresina.
